The Northern New England Geriatric 教育 Center (NNEGEC) helps to improve the health and quality of life for older adults by expanding the capacity of the healthcare workforce to provide high-quality, 安全, and interprofessional care to older adults, with a specific emphasis on caring for older adults in rural and underserved areas of New Hampshire, 佛蒙特州, 和缅因州.
The NNEGEC is one of 48 programs funded nationally through the 健康 Resources and 服务 Administration’s Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP). Over the past decade, the NNEGEC has trained 16,000 individuals in more than 500 programs. From June 2021 to July 2022, our GWEP provided 800 hours of educational content for patients, care partners, and healthcare professionals.
NNEGEC results
From June 2022 to July 2023, the Geriatric 教育 Center:
- 提供 1,000 hours of educational content to patients, care partners, and health professionals.
- 使 2,790 points of contact (a person in a program) of patients and care partners.
- 使 1,249 points of contact of health professionals and health professions students.
NNEGEC programs
Our programs include intensive trainings for professionals and providers working with older adults, educational materials, and consultation on best practices in geriatric care. Topics that the NNEGEC has provided education on in the past year include:
- Advance care planning
- Chronic care management
- Dementia care
- Fall risk reduction
- Hoarding disorder
- Medicare Annual Wellness Visits
The NNEGEC is part of the 教育 pillar under Dartmouth 健康's Geriatric Center of Excellence (GCOE). The GCOE is committed to delivering world-class, person-centered care to older adults across northern New England and creating an Age-Friendly 健康 System.
